Season 5

And so season 5 has begun We left Canada on October 15th, going via New York. Almost to the date in 2019 we were at the beginning of our adventure going through New York with our boat, petrified as we motored the Hudson River, passing by the statue of Liberty. The boat traffic was heavy, motor taxis everywhere. What a journey it’s been and still is.  We arrived in Carriacou with 2 full suitcases of boat parts and other assorted luggage (i.e a lot of clothes, mostly mine 😁) after 8 months in Canada. Luckily for us, the airline didn’t lose our luggage and Customs didn’t give us a hard time with all our stuff. Opening up the boat after such a long time can be a little stressful , you never know what to expect and in what condition it  will be in  while sitting on the stands, baking in the sun all those months. Will there be small creatures scurrying around, mold, water seeping  through thatches, dead and cooked batteries (oh so expensive to replace) or a multipl...

Winds, goats and more….. Chatham Bay, Union Island (St Vincent and the Grenadines ) Beautiful anchorage, sandy beach, nice snorkeling…idyllic one would think but…only a few restaurants on the beach. That’s it. No shops, grocery stores, garbage bins or water spouts to fill our tanks and no roads. And the winds blowing off the mountains all around was mind blowing …no pun intended . Can’t imagine what a hurricane sounds like.  To get to the next town over, we had to walk up a very rocky steep goat trail that seemed to go on forever. Finally arrived at the top to a paved road, then walked down and around the mountain for an hour before coming in the next town where you could provision, have lunch, dispose of trash and clear in or out of Customs and Immigration. Good workout for sure. The biggest shock was seeing the price of an average can of diced tomatoes…$18.00 Canadian dollars. Yes not a mistake. It was not $1.80. No big surprise that it stayed on the shelf. Just changed the menu ...

St Vincent and the Grenadines

Anchor’s up……  After more than 2 months in Martinique, we finally moved on. We had a great Christmas and New Year with our Danish friends in the French Island but it was  time to go. Our friends stayed behind because of someone visiting them from Denmark but they’ll catch up later.  On the eve of our departure, we went and anchored further away from other boats. Because we were leaving at 3:00 am, we find it less stressful to have no one around when we hoist up the sail and lift the anchor in the dark. We’re really not fond of night sailing but leaving at this time, we don’t have to wait too long before the sun rises. We arrived in St Vincent 14 hours later.  We had thought to stay on the main island for a few days but after one night decided to push on to the Grenadines. The anchorage was full of  charter boats with music blaring and the disco lights flashing until the wee hours of the morning. How rude! We arrived at the island of Bequia where we had originall...
