Leaving the Bahamas

 Leaving the Bahamas....

It’s been a fabulous experience visiting the Bahamas with our sailboat. So many places to see and  things to do but unfortunately we’re not able to do it all. It would take years to explore all the island and then some. The one thing that we have to say is that the Bahamas are the people. It’s their greatest treasure. They are the friendliest, kindest, generous and most caring people that we’ve ever met. For them alone, we would definitely come again.

On our last week before crossing to Turks and Caicos, we were in Atwood Harbor waiting out yet again another 2 windy days.  Took the dinghy to shore and was greeted by the local police. Never found out how they knew we were on the beach because the hamlet  is a fair distance for our anchorage and not visible from the road. Some things will always remain a mystery lol.

When we reached the intersection on the main road, the one and only car that we saw during our time in the village was a Rasta driver calling us “ broda and sista “ told us to go to the house that had a white truck parked in front and knock on the door.... it was the grocery store. No sign or any other  indication that it was the local market. So knock we did and someone behind the door said “ what do you want?” “ Ah!!! Do you have groceries “ we answered

So in we go ... no much in the store. Inquired about cheese and bread... don’t have but will take us to another place for that. The shop owner drove us about 5 miles down the road to the other supermarket with Mike sitting on a pallet  in the back of the truck. No room for him in the cab 🙄We did score our desired items then she drove us down the goat track back to our dinghy that was beached in the sand. Now if that’s not helpful, hospitable and gracious people.....

The Bahamas outer islands aren’t as visited as other islands because of the distance, remoteness and lack of services but so worth seeing if you’re willing to go off the beaten track and see the real deal.

Easter weekend. Last year we were in lockdown because of the Covid, this year it’s because of a nor’easter wind. We arrived at our last Bahamian Island just before a big blow again... arrived Friday and we weren’t able to get of the boat before Tuesday. The boat  is now very tidy and clean lol 😝

So tomorrow we depart for Turks and Caicos!!!

Stay tuned 😀

Cheers
