Finally heading out

Mother Nature has not been kind to us this month. In northern Florida it has been very cold. Woke up quite a few mornings to 2 degrees. The condensation dripping in your ear or eye ain the early hours of the morning makes for a rude awakening. We know that for most of us Canadians that temperature in December is considered balmy but for us on the water with no heat on the boat it’s brutal🥶

We’ve been at sketchy marina for over 6 weeks. We had originally thought to be here between 2 to 4 weeks but reality is quite different. They say that the worst thing a sailor can have is a schedule. So here we are still in Green Cove Springs !!

Up until a few hours ago, it looked like we might have to spend Christmas at sketchy but we finally got a bit of  luck.

For the last 2 days, everything seemed to be breaking down and when we thought it was fixed, it would breakdown again. So with a good mechanic, some McGyvering from Mike a few prayers and crossed fingers, it looks like we’ll be taking off on Sunday.

We were originally going to go out 3 miles offshore in the Atlantic for about 48 hours and head to West Palm Beach to do our required COVID test (has to be done within 5 days of crossing to the Bahamas) but decided to stay in the ICW (Intra Coastal  Waterway) and putts  our way down south.  So now we are looking at about 7 to 8 days for our staging to cross the Gulf Stream.

Since most places are shutting down for Christmas, we might as well take our time and enjoy the scenery. Also the further south we go the warmer it will get, and man are we looking forward to that.😎

We would have liked to be in the Bahamas but unfortunately it’s not in the cards for this year. Maybe if we get a good weather window, we’ll be there for the New Year.

Merry Christmas and Happy New Year 🍷😀

Cheers

Mike and Pierrette
