Just kidding... wanted to get your attention lol. We have moved on from our lovely marina to a mooring ball in Vero Beach to wait for a weather window. The crossing will be from West Palm Beach to Old Bahamas Bay. So far the weather doesn’t seem favorable for the next week or so. The municipal marina in Vero Beach is quite nice, cheap and very busy. A lot of sailboats are tied together  for lack of space, called rafting as you’ll see in the photos. You really need to be in good stead with your neighbor being so close. 😊 We are rafted to another Corbin whom we traveled with while going through the locks on the Oshwego and Erie canals. After the locks, we were either a few days ahead or behind them. We met up  again in Palm Cove Florida and we’ll make the crossing together. There is also another Corbin on a mooring ball just next to us. So rare to see 3 Corbin’s next to each other.....such a lovely sight. So many sailboats and power boats waiting for the crossing. Ever...

Christmas and New Years is already over since a few weeks. It was a quiet holiday for us at the marina as most  people were away. We did have our friend John from Kitchener visit us for a week which was nice for us and a little chilly for him, the weather wasn’t great.. Many jobs, repairs and cosmetic work to the boat were done  during our time here. This has been a wonderful spot to refresh the boat and recharge for the Caribbean.  The fridge died just before Christmas so we had to get ice at the marina every day to fill it so we wouldn’t lose our food and keep the beer cold, lol until the new one arrived. Luckily Mike was able to install it so it did cut down on our costs . I was busy with varnishing and painting jobs. Now we’re itching to leave for the Bahamas. We’ve provisioned heavily ie beer and wine since everything in the Bahamas is 3 times the price of Florida. It’s been a little over 3 months since we left Crysler park marina in Morrisburg. We’ve had many learning curves, including some mistakes, a few scratches, mechanical woes, cold weather but also some triumphs, good times, good laughs and have learned so much in that short period of time (also felt longer sometimes) and have met many wonderful people along the way. Now we are slightly burnt out and in need of some R and R as well as finishing our upgrades and repairs that we didn’t get to  complete at the  “Sketchy” marina. Thanks to some sailing friends who told us about a marina in northern Florida, we have decided to dock our boat for a month, enjoy Christmas and New Year at this Yacht club. This is a 5 star marina with access to resort facilities at a one star price. We have so many pools to chose from, spas and fitness centers just to name a few amenities. It’s an absolute gem, not advertised. We basically have the place to ourselves....guess it’s too cold for Florida ...

We finally arrived in Florida after almost 3 months on the water. We have been taking our time, stopping here and there, then took the longer route around the Chesapeake Bay to avoid the Atlantic Ocean. So we are cruising  down the ICW all the way to Miami. Before going further south we decided to go to a working marina in northern Florida to do some upgrades, repair our scratch and order parts on line. Arriving in Jacksonville we were getting beaten up by 30 knot winds. The only bridge that we needed to get open for us broke down half way up. We thought the bridge was fully opened so started to gun it to go through. The bridge tender was on the radio giving instructions that we weren’t hearing because of the wind so she rushed out of the booth and was waving furiously to avoid us loosing the mast. We thought we had finally gotten to the next temperature  zone but not so.....last Saturday in Georgetown  South Carolina  we really hit a warm spell, 23 degrees Woohoo!!! Short lived. After getting our provisions at the Piggley Wiggly grocery store (we kid you not with the name)!we took off and anchored about an hour outside the city. Next day, early departure. Water depths were really shallow and we actually slightly touched the mud at the bottom of the river. Luckily we didn’t get stuck and thankfully if we had, we are members of Tow Boat US the equivalent of CAA lol The day before yesterday going through the very narrow  Elliott Cut we didn’t know until the last moment how bad the current was and it was a struggle to keep the boat leveled. Short but intense moment. Mike was on the verge of  requesting fresh underwear and he knows when I’m stressed because I actually shut up for a change lol. Yesterday was a really bad day....after waiting out the gale winds in Morehead, North Carolina we were looking forward to moving again. Wanting to get fuel before getting underway we headed for the local fuel dock at slack water.  Unfortunately the cross current and winds pushed us into the corner of the fuel dock and we were unable to recover from that so it put a nasty scratch on the side of the boat. We absolutely felt sick to our stomachs. All day we had this cloud over our heads. Didn’t help that it was still  pretty cold and rainy all day and we hadn’t seen much of the sun in the last week. So after anchoring for the night, we discussed the day.....would have, could have, should have can sometimes be helpful to avoid making the same mistakes. We had a long conversation about all the ups and downs that we’re experiencing. On a boat you can’t live the same way as on land with unlimited drinking water, electricity, heat, fuel, grocery store etc. The laundromat in itself is...

Since leaving Virginia we've been putting serious miles every day trying to get further south for some heat. Along the way, we've had super anchorage spots with stellar sunset and sunrises. Unfortunately we didn't make it far enough south to avoid the frost. Now we are docked in Morehead North Carolina waiting for some major gale force winds to blow through until Monday. Usually we try to anchor but with predicated winds of 55 knots on the way, we took the chicken but safer way (also very costly) and paid for a dock to tie up to. Added several lines to hold the boat just in case. The added bonus of a dock is  the hot showers, heat in the boat, free toilet paper lol and charged batteries, WiFi and internet. Oh the joys of small luxuries that we normally take for granted. Hopefully by Monday, the storm has passed, we'll have provisioned on food, beer and wine, diesel in the tank, oil changed and clean underwear. All set to do serious miles. Cheers Mi...

For all of you who thought we were nice and warm on our boat heading south....well we are freezing cold. This morning going up on deck there was a layer of frost which made it quite treacherous and dangerous. Tried hard not to take a unwelcome dunk in the water. No thanks.... not craving a bath that much. Last night not to annoy our sailboat neighbors we decided not to run the noisy generator so hence forego the heater. Woke up with frost on our noses. So we are officially in the ICW. We had hoped to do the Dismal Swamp Canal but when we arrived at the lock, the lock master highly recommended that we turn around and do the Virginia Cut due to the heavy duck weeds that can make your engine overheat. Don’t need any engine problems so we and the other sailboat waiting to go through the lock decided to turn around. We docked at the public dock in Chesapeake Virginia for 2 days waiting for the winds to die down. We decided to head for the grocery store to stock up. On our way out with our...
